I hope that everyone had a restful and fun filled Thanksgiving break! December is going to be a busy month as we finish our unit on Chemistry in the Kitchen. Students enjoyed the visit from Chef Brown and our field trip to HPU. Today we made salad dressing and set up an experiment using the scientific method to answer the question - Is the salad dressing a mixture or a solution? After we shared our observations, we enjoyed a salad complete with homemade salad dressing.
In the upcoming weeks we will focus on Chemistry in the Kitchen by making butter, popcorn, and cookies. These experiences will help guide students toward the summative assessment task, to follow a recipe at home and explain how the ingredients work together scientifically. You will receive a hand out next week that includes suggestions on how to help your child with the summative task and a copy of the rubric.

Writing- Fantasy Stories- Focusing on Organization, Ideas, Writing a Strong Lead and a Strong Ending
Art- Transforming/Changing a stuffed animal and creating a short comic strip piece to accompany their "new" animal.
Math- Fractions/ Percents- Please have your child study math facts or log on to Khan Academy for 15- 20 minutes a day. *If your child doesn't have an account we will set one up in class. Khan Academy is another way for students to practice/learn math concepts.
*Thank you for your support with our BYOwn Device Day. Students were thrilled to share their favorite apps, games, music and videos with their friends.
